Greenhouse Gas Emissions Compliance Alberta is the first province in Canada to introduce legislation to reduce greenhouse gas emission intensity from large industry. Bill 3, Climate Change and Emissions Management Amendment Act and its accompanying Specified Gas Emitters Regulation (Energy Efficiency Quantification Protocol) state industrial facilities that emit more than 100,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (including carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons, and sulphur hexafluoride gases) a year must submit annual reports on their greenhouse gas emissions and reduce their emissions intensity by 12 per cent starting July 1, 2007.The Specified Gas Emitters Regulation details how companies can reduce their emissions intensity. These compliance options include making operating improvements, buying an Alberta-based offset to apply against their emission total or contributing to a new government fund that will invest in technology to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the province. By incorporating the GHG Sunergy technology described within this website, an organization will qualify to receive Alberta Government Greenhouse Gas Emission Credit. A typical Sunergy system has proven to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 136 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per location annually. With new Alberta government legislation for stricter emissions control and monitoring, environmentally friendly technologies, such as Sunergy, are strategic to successfully meeting mandated environmental protection measures.
